Document Summary
Sensation our sense organs" detection and response to external stimulus energy and transmission of those responses to the brain. Perception the brain"s processing of detecting signals, resulting in internal representation of stimuli that form a conscious experience of the world. A stimulus is the environment we are trying to understand and interact with. A sensation is the mechanical or chemical interaction with the environment. A transaction is the process by which sensory receptors produce neural impulses when they receive physical or chemical stimulation. The brain needs qualitative and quantitative information about a stimulus: Qualitative what is the identity of the signal. Quantitative how much of that signal is there. Psychophysics is the sub eld of psychology that measures the relationship between stimuli and perception, examining our psychological experiences of physical stimuli. Often interested in assessing thresholds of perpetual abilities. Absolute thresholds the minimum intensity of stimulation that must occur before you experience a sensation.
