Rna polymerase is main component involved, adds 3 nucleotides to the dna. Dna vs. rna: dna is 2 strand, rna is 1. 3 bases are the same except for uracil thymine: elongation of polypeptide chain, first codon, recruit bases. When you are born you have the most telomeres, as cells divide, telomeres are shortened and when you get older they stop. Overview: many steps involved, many points of regulation. Good for the checks and balances but bad because there are many places where things could go wrong, and gives space for variability: gene: two parts, regulatory and coding.
