Document Summary

Collecting, organizing, summarizing and analyzing information to draw conclusions or answers. Identifying the research object: collect data to answer questions, describe the data (descriptive statistics) - analysis, perform inference (inferential statistics). Calculus: co(cid:373)pletely useless u(cid:374)less you"re a(cid:374) e(cid:374)gi(cid:374)eer. Probability and statistics: more useful, and more people can use it. Logically consistent method for interpreting information (data) you observe (under uncertainity) . A huge large number of individuals eg: bu students, people in massachusetts. Individuals make up population eg: coconut in hawaii: sample. Is a numerical summary of your data(a sample). Is numerical summary of population; very similar to statistic but very different to it: variables. It is possible where numbers are used qualitatively or categorically. Instead of using numerical data, a categorical data is used for eg: gender, college student or not a college student. Note: usage of numbers is possible for a category/quantitative analysis eg: sports divisions, age category, zip codes. Definition: finite or countable numbers of possible values.
