WRIT 111 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Holley Mangold, Uwire, Michelle Obama
Document Summary
From michelle obama to reports from the ama, it seems as though there"s always talk about the so-called obesity epidemic. Obesity is a disease, it leads to a multitude of other diseases, if someone is overweight they obviously don"t take care of themselves, and the stereotypes go on and on. On the other side of the spectrum, there is a philosophy that"s been gaining momentum called health at every. Haes has a simple thought behind it - no matter what size someone is, they can be healthy, and even if they aren"t, it"s nobody"s business but their own. The movement also focuses on self-acceptance, doing the things that make yourself happy, and not worrying about what others think. I have to give mad props to this movement. Thinness is valued very highly in our society and in the end, it"s not important. Mangold, a weight lifter on the 2012 olympic team, weighs 350 pounds.
