Animal"s capacity on conditioning is constrained by its biology. To test: garcia exposed rats to particular taste, sight or sound (cs) and later to radiation or drugs (us) that led to nausea and vomiting (ur). Found that even hours after tasking novel flaver, rats avoided flavor. Found rats aversion to tastes but not sights or sounds. If got sick from mussels wont be averted to their look, restaurant or people they ate with. Studies enhanced welfare of many other predator/prey relations that occupy same niche. African gardens, raccoons from attacking chickens, ravens and crows from feeding on crane eggs, mexican wolves from preying on sheep. Before conditioning: us(drug) ur (nausea) Conditioning: ns(waiting room) + us(drug) ur (nausea) After conditioning: cs (waiting room) cr (nausea) Naturally adaptive: ex: natural athletes: animals can most easily learn and retain behaviors that draw on their biological predispositions, such as dogs" inborn tendency to rely on all four feet for mobility and balance.
