Creativity: the ability to produce novel and valuable ideas. Some think that a score above 120 on standard intelligence test supports creativity. Convergent thinking: tests that require only one straight answer use this thinking injury to left parietal lobe damages this ability. Divergent thinking: creativity tests require this (i. e. how many uses for a brick?) Injury to areas of frontal lobe can leave reading, writing and arithmetic skills intact but destroy imagination. Furnishes ideas, images and phrases we use as mental building blocks. Chance favors prepared mind. more blocks we have, more changes to combine in novel ways: imaginative thinking skills. Provide ability to see things in novel ways, recognize paterns, and make connections. Once mastering a problem"s basic elements, we redefine or explore it in a new way. Ex: cop developed expertise regarding solar system and planets, then creatively defined system as revolving around sun not earth. Wiles" imaginative solution combined two partial solutions: a venturesome personality.
