3 different patterns of maternal care depending on the type of offspring. Mother provide more care because most type of species, mothers have more to invest. Mother tries in vain to save pups from aggression from antagonistic females, while males do nothing. Males not sure if child is theirs (long internal gestation in particular) 3 types of species when it comes to parenting. A: invest a lot in fecundity but chance each will survive is low. C: do(cid:374)"t produ(cid:272)e a lot of offspri(cid:374)g (cid:271)ut al(cid:373)ost all survive. The first member of a mating couple who can leave offspring will. In fish those with internal fertilization (86%) have females providing most parental care. Due to there being less paternity uncertainty with external fertilization. In species with simultaneous gamete release there should be a 50-50 chance of parental investment but in fact 72% have male parental investment.
