Document Summary

The class was told that the professor was stuck in traffic and was running late. 10 minutes later, an older man who looked like a professor came in and just told the whole class to turn their seats and face the back of the room. The whole class instantly obeyed and stayed seated like that for a couple of minutes. Our professor came in and we realized it was a psychology experiment on how easily humans mindlessly obey authority without questioning it. A mix of the hot and cold perspective. Hot perspective: a focus on emotion and motivation. Conflict: wanting to be right vs. wanting to feel good about oneself. Ex: experiment where everyone stands the wrong way in an elevator, so you do too. You want to be right about knowing which way to stand towards the door but you don t want to feel uncomfortable and out of place. Focus on the individual and their inherited traits/genes.
