Social psychology: the scientific study of how people think, feel, and behave in social context. Focus is on the individual (how they behave in social context) Other people don"t have to be visibly present (they can be implied or imagined; like experiments where ppl think they"re being watched) Distinctions between social psychology and related fields vs. sociology vs. clinical psych. Social psych focus on individual -sociology focus on group level. Social psych focus on how people -clinical focus on treating abnormal disorders normally behave and influence each other. Couldve figured out on your own using common sense or by observing your friends/family. Social psychology doesn"t rely on common sense but only knows something to be a fact by experimentally testing it. Sherif, kurt lewin, wwii, solomon asch, & leon festinger were more influences.
