Behaviorism- classical conditioning, impulse is hunger, wanting food, and that"s satisfied w/ parents and so you attach w/ parents. Self stimulate- rocking back and fourth, biting themselves, pinching themselves. Prove freud and behaviorism wrong, instinctive need to cling to another warm body- coined the term contact comfort. Blew cupboard theory, disproved it b/c cupboard theory was association only on food and attachment there, but this showed that it"s not the case.
