Document Summary

Overton lipid soluble molecules penetrate cells and barrier must be lipid-kind. Langmuir troughs measured pressure by pushing; said it was a monolayer and thus the cell membrane could be ether a monolayer or bilayer. Gorter/grendal determined surface area of rbc and extracted phospholipids but they underdetermined (2 mistakes 2x) which helped determined it was a bilayer. Mudds rbcs= prefer and oily phase and have few proteins. Danielli/davson model protein phospholipids x2 protein sandwich and protein pores were presumed. Jd robertson model used a tem microscope and saw two lines which he presumed were protein coats. It was actually oso4 so he was wrong. But, from this experiment he suggested that the extracellular side had glycoprotein and the intracellular side was not heavily glycosylated. Wbcs= prefer water phase and have more proteins in cell membrane. ^ dan branton- performed freeze fracture on rbcs and saw bumps on cell. Performed freeze fracture on liposome (delivery molecule) and there were no bumps.
