One of the most important principles in archaeology is the ability to observe then analyze a wide variety of data. Archaeologists collect information about the treatment of the dead for a variety of interpretive purposes. The data collection will be through the observation of fifty (50) cemetery headstones, randomly chosen throughout the graveyard. Main objective: learning to gather and analyze specific sets of data. There are a number of cemeteries in binghamton that would be suitable for your project, including three that are easy to access from campus. Students can take the oakdale mall shuttle route on the blue bus leaving from the university union and get off near the cemetery"s entrance. Groups are encouraged to meet outside of the regularly scheduled class time to discuss their project.
