Because departures from the pattern are counteracted by routine and sanction. Unless something comes along to transform the institution. Weekend shapes the way people organize their time (setting aside time to not work) An institution can be just a set of rules or a law which is not made up of a set of clsoed relationships but affects it. Groups of people belong to achieve some goal. Ex. firms, clubs, teams, churches, soc movements, schools. Wrapped in family to be able to be separated from family (or voluntary clubs and recreation)
