Document Summary

Material, economy, means of production- technology and people. Change of base echoes into the superstructure. Dialectic relationship is one way of reading this. Not a one to one, mathematical relationship, some of the base could percolate to the top. Marx"s question: what can we change that would alter the superstructure. Spirit moves through a dialectic process until an ideology is formed, and a balance/ homeostasis is achieved. Ex. in a conversation, you throw out a premise, i add on or refute it, eventually it renders an ideology. Marx finds this to be inadequate, as it doesn"t take into account the material life and mystifies. This superstructure of german ideology is based on material conditions of history > marx shows these material conditions and why they are so. Bourgeoisie benefits from the base, ideology does not represent the base (small group defines our culture)
