Document Summary

Marxist theory is important in critical thought. Realm of the real vs. realm of representation. Ideal ------------ superstructure (social, politics, ideology, religion, norms) Material ------- base/ economic base (where production and real life takes place) Ideals that seem obvious/ important (democracy, brotherhood etc. ) we need to make them material. To replace ideal with another does not do anything > need to think of the material conditions. Only by changing the based can you change the superstructure (not vice versa) Language is power - belongings and realm of superstructure. Change = occurrence of revolution in realms of ideas. Young hegelians: criticize various religious concepts, ask people to take stances toward critical ideas/ positions and replace them with others. If you do not believe in feminism, you should replace that belief with something else. By doing that, we can change the world. Did not criticize the concepts themselves, the tyranny of concepts . Attributed independent status to concepts (that they are replaceable)
