POL SCI 1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Abc-Clio, Taylor & Francis, Closed Set
Document Summary
The lego metaphor frequently used to describe learning objects is critically examined and a successor metaphor is nominated. A taxonomy of learning object types is presented as a foundation for continued research in learning objects and related instructional design theories. Finally, the connecting of instructional design theory to the taxonomy is demonstrated and the benefits of this approach are briefly espoused. This introduction should provide the reader with a context for interpreting the remaining chapters of this book. Technology is an agent of change, and major technological innovations can result in entire paradigm shifts. The computer network known as the internet is one such innovation. After affecting sweeping changes in the way people communicate and do business, the internet is poised to bring about a paradigm shift in the way people learn. Consequently, a major change may also be coming in the way educational materials are designed, developed, and delivered to those who wish to learn.
