OPTOM 10 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Diabetic Retinopathy, Peripheral Vision, Aqueous Humour
Document Summary
Midterm: multiple choice, true-false, fill in the blank. Blindness caused by increased pressure in the eye. Reduce vision from outside in (visual field defects) They have more trouble bumping into chairs b/c of things beside them (peripherals) End of this progression, then you have problem with the eye chart. Not everyone who has it knows they have it, you almost have to test vision from the peripherals: diabetic retinopathy (eye disease) Change in retina (sensitive film in back of eye with photoreceptors), change in blood vessels that nourish the back of the eye. New vessels are formed but unfortunately they aren"t as strong as the original vessels, can hemorrhage, unlucky if you get that complication; you"d have trouble seeing b/c scar tissue and blood in the back of eye. Discourage vessels in black of eye from growing; block away to save the eye: macular degeneration (amd) Opposite of glaucoma, lose central vision not peripherals.
