Sacred places around the world: (does not have to be religious or human occurred there) Mecca (pilgrimage site because a special religious event happened there) Black hills of south dakota (mount rushmore) Lakota hate that (taken away from them / kept from them by treaty) Sacred because of themselves because you go there to pray, calm down, meditating/thinking (could find peace here) 1874 = discovered gold in black hills. Lakota wanted place back so didn"t touch a dime of money. Hopies = at bottom of grand canyon. Where hopi people became to be people. Navajo = became dan/e (the people) migrated north from canada. Had common language, common history, common shared religious groups/thoughts/items. Where you became a people & share peoplehood is what is important.
