ITALIAN R5B Lecture Notes - Lecture 35: Secondary Source
#35 4/25 Wednesday
MLA Citation – Works Cited
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/
● Review the section on “Other contributors” for help including a book’s translator(s) in
your entry.
● You can also find specific tabs on the left-hand side pertaining to books and periodicals.
Paper 2.2 (9-10 pages)
Due Wednesday, May 9
● Part of the revision process will echo that of Paper 1: you will improve structure, expand
upon your analysis, etc. Remember – revision involves significant changes!
● You will also incorporate one to two secondary sources from your annotated
bibliography into your argument. Choose your source(s) carefully! It’s fine to use it just
for one part of your argument, but make sure to engage with it thoughtfully.
Reminder about Source Selection
● At least one source must be an academic book or book chapter
● Remaining sources should be articles from peer-reviewed journals
● One exception to the above categories:
○ You may choose to engage with a source like Freud’s “The Uncanny” or Plato’s
Symposium, provided you clarify why and how you would incorporate it
For each source, you need the following (aim for ~150-200 words per annotated
bibliography entry):
1. A complete citation of the source, using MLA format (list in alphabetical order by
author’s last name).
2. A brief summary of the writer’s argument/thesis: what the writer is claiming, how those
claims are supported, and the main conclusions (“so what?”).
3. How the source relates to your individual research topic, i.e. how you would use the
source in your paper, and why. Be sure to provide connections between specific
information in the source and specific points you are planning to support with the
information.
For Friday
● Continue working on your annotated bibliography
● Be prepared to discuss (in a group) which secondary source you think you might
incorporate into Paper 2.2 and how you might do so
● Consider which text you enjoyed the most
