Start with bone/anatomy, find out which bones are missing/present and what it must have looked like. Both sides of animal are mirror images of each other. Study of modification of animals; gives basis of anatomical structure in looking at animals. Knowing what animals look like in general to help reconstruct extinct ones. Using closest living relatives to see how their muscle structures are. Helps us learn and clarify what we know/don"t know about the lives of animals. Muscles leave scars on bones, helping scientists know how things are connected. Small animals usually have small muscle scars. Strong, but still can break; can heal quickly.
