The 3 stories covered in this course are. 3)sand creek and bighorn to 9-11 and iraq--(expansion of american power) In 1870, us came out of bloody civil war (abolition of slavery) When the us went to war the politics fell, slaves were able to take their freedom ex: fought in unions army. Slavery was a big determiner of wealth--slave owners had the most wealth in america. Slavery shaped aspects of american life in mid 1800"s. Any comments that it may be bad/wrong were seen as crazy and radical. When the power of slavery became cracked, slaveholders became more aggressive. Abe was elected and south lost election so the south succeeded from the union. Reconstruction= putting us back in order after civil war. Radical reconstruction= massive radical reconstruction/overthrow of the south elite. Use the power of federal gov to support a social reformation in south - post civil war.
