He saw the puritan movement and principles as fitting for the dilemmas he witnessed. However, there was much opposition against the puritan movement and charles i and his advisor laud saw the movement as becoming political dissent. They"ve heard about struggles and successes of virginia and think they can do it better so they want to go over there because they"re being oppressed. Other aristocrats also wanted to have a voluntary mass movement to america for puritans. To make it legal, they use their aristocratic connections to get a charter for massachusetts bay. Comes with a grant of (very small chunk of) land and permission to legally settle in america i. ii. Virginia grant is immense and there"s a lot of fertile land. The massachusetts land grant also doesn"t have many navigable rivers b.
