Before, believed that world was getting worse and worse til christ"s return, glories past. Good reasons to think that - all around you, you see the ruins of great civilizations. People don"t live as long as in bible; god doesn"t speak directly. No conception of possib of better future world - instead, philosophers can say they want to go back - call for a renaissance. Revolution framed in conservative terms, even perhaps to themselves.
