By end of ww2, over 40k aa living in sf. Kaiser shipyards went from employing 46k to just 9k in space a year. Just 2 years after the war, unemployment rate for aa was 30% Lack of capacity to respond to the housing affordability crisis. Lack of response to basic repair requests, no resident services, years of unfulfilled promises. Found 7 (cid:396)clusters(cid:397) around 7 street corners. 6 of 7 street corners were located in neighborhoods with high concentrations pubic housing. Mayor newsom- hope vi funds have disappeared by need to do something to address the challenge of public housing in sf. Under mayor lee, hope sf becomes the city(cid:394)s signature anti-poverty initiative. (cid:396)reparations(cid:397) = director theo miller explicitly calls out the city(cid:394)s role in producing these neighborhoods of racially concentrated poverty and argues that we need to consider the roles of power and political economy in our solutions.
