Document Summary

Monophyletic all members from groups derived from common ancestor. Green algae not a valid group put in quotes green algae . Glaucophyta basal members of archaeplastida chloroplasts have peptidoglycan. Peptidoglycan devolved over that and became a lost trait because it already has a support system around it. Ancestral alga diverged into red algae and green algae. Green algae split into chlorophytes charophytes and land plants. Viridiplantae includes chlorophytes, charophytes, and land plants. Occur at different depths in the ocean. Thought to have evolved in relatively deep waters. You can find them in relatively shallow waters today. At really deep levels, they turn really dark, almost black. As they go up to water, they get lighter and greener. They have agar in their cell walls. Carrageenan thickening agent (can be found in ice creams) Very diverse, mostly in fresh water, also found in marine life, even on life. Can be single cells, can be colonies, or multicellular.
