ASTRON 10 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Sergei Korolev, Liquid-Propellant Rocket, Wernher Von Braun
Document Summary
Wavelength is just larger in radio spectrum than visible spectrum. The concept itself is old, but misunderstood for radio. First one to do it was jansky in the 1920"s. Bell labs had him find out what was making a static hiss. Noticed that certain objects in the sky were correlated with spikes in radio wave activity. Bell labs shifted him to other research topics after it failed. Grote reber set up a radio telescope after reading the findings from jansky. Known for his very original thoughts and ideas. He recorded the energy spikes from different locations in the sky and sent it for publishing. The editors of the astrophysical journal didn"t know what to do about this paper. That was the first time anything related to the new field for radio astronomy had been published. They ended up publishing anyway, opening up the field immensely for the future. World war ii interfered with mass adoption of these techniques.
