He could read and write french, latin, and middle english. He wrote house of fame and troilus cresidye. Writes in middle english, same as langland, a generation before. Important to notice what chaucer reveals and what we do not learn when reading. Look at grammar and diction of the characters to indicate social status of characters. 31 pilgrims travel including chaucer and the host. Each person much tell 4 tales, that have a moral. A tale with sentence and solace meaning a complete thought that offers comfort.
