THTR1170 Lecture Notes - Lecture 49: Eye Strain, Stage Lighting, Additive Color
Document Summary
Lighting designers achieve their goals by manipulating the four controllable qualities of light intensity (brightness), distribution, color, and movement. Within the functions of stage lighting, it is important that the visibility of a production is not too affected by the intensity of light. If the light directed into an area is too bright or too dim, it will cause eyestrain on the audience. This function of manipulating intensity can be observed in our daily lives through the usage of controlling, turning up or lowering, the brightness/intensity on a laptop, tablet, phone, or television as to not cause unnecessary eyestrain for the user. Throughout our lives there are he occasions in which we believe we are required to change the intensity, distribution or color of light to create a speci c mood or atmosphere. Some more private events may even use colors, such as orange, blue, green, and red, to elicit a certain emotion.
