Really at the root of psychological research. Wundt was the first to differentiate psychology as a scientific discipline apart from biology and the sciences. Psychology needed to be studied with the same level of inquiry as the natural sciences. These dimensions are related to arousal (excitement or relaxation) and valence (pleasure or displeasure). Not just how you feel, but highly controlled introspection. What they feel, hear, touch, etc. perceptions that can be measured. Invented the just noticeable difference (jnd) and interested in studying individuals to see how they were able to make perceptions in differences in colors, sounds, etc.
