Document Summary

Monday 12 november: q and a for exam. The point is that our personality is the self (cid:271)ut, our self is a theory. Our hope is to understand our environment/our reality. To do so, we build a theory like a scientist. Cooley a(cid:374)d mead say it (cid:272)o(cid:373)es fro(cid:373) so(cid:272)iety. Rogers phe(cid:374)o(cid:373)e(cid:374)al self (cid:272)o(cid:373)es fro(cid:373) orga(cid:374)is(cid:373)i(cid:272) self, pro(cid:448)ided so(cid:272)iety pro(cid:448)ides unconditional regard. Erikson: ego identity is formed through the way the child is treated. He said that we form a theory partly based on observation and partly based on prior thinking/concepts we inherit from our society. Resonates with kelly"s humanist-scientist metaphor, although kelly didn"t develop this aspect of the metaphor. Epstein would sort of agree with all of those^ It does come from trait theory -- our real personality. We do have this organismic self (interior desires, etc. ) We do have early childhood = erikson. We do pay attention to society = cooley.
