Document Summary

Course: introduction to psychology as a natural science. Many ads use association to appeal to customers. Humans naturally like teddy bears and nostalgic items. Associative learning is not necessarily a rational process. Developed a procedure for studying psychic reflexes . Results revealed that conditioned was highly orderly. Strength of conditioning varied systematically as a function of unconditioned stimulus properties, conditioned stimulus properties, and temporal intervals for shock. All species were susceptible to classical conditioning and same quantitative relations for all species. Aristotle said that pairing is sufficient but in-class demonstrations suggest otherwise. Question: the second row shows that the subject did not learn the light/meat association. Answer: it shows that stimulating the release of dopamine in the brain resulted in learning light/meat association, despite redundancy. When the light is paired with the food in the 2nd row, the dog does not salivate because an association has not developed. The light has to offer prediction and information to produce a result.
