Uncanny- boundaries of the ego, return to a way of thinking that has been repressed. The uncanny points to the magic subterranean force that makes us powerless. Omnipotence of thought- wishes that come true, because we are intimately connected with primary caregiver. Primary process suspends normal concept of cause and effect and opts for omnipotence of thought, belief in omnipotence of thought. Example: house to grocery store and the map completely rotates and time collapses when seeing your ex almost like you landed in a dream. The familiar part is repressed so it seems unfamiliar. Freud thinks that the female genitals are uncanny because we all came from there thus familiar but also unfamiliar. Freud is beginning to think more about the boundaries of the ego and nature of the drives- that"s how we picture the drives. For freud, psychoanalytic action happens when father enters the scene.
