Document Summary

New turks traded pastoral products for agricultural products of greeks in the cities. There was fundamental shift from agricultural to pastoral economy in turkey. Pastoralism/nomadism won out against agriculture because you could take valuable things with you. When you see an invasion coming your way you can"t bring farmland and your crops with you, but you can take pastoral products such as cattle/sheep or any valuable items with you so pastoralism became more popular. Turkey gained power and everybody in the region started speaking turkish and looked at himself or herself as islamic. Sufi mystics: include a man named rumi or the mevlana. Sufis are not part of classic islamic civilization. Sufis were focused on personal connection to the divine. They focused on coming closer to oneness with god. It"s about connecting with god, it doesn"t matter if you"re christian or muslim. Sufi"s were found in organized brotherhood of other sufi"s, which spread across islamic world.
