COMM1010 Lecture Notes - Dialectic
Document Summary
Some dramatic and literary works, do, in fact, argue : why narrative, facts and our experience don"t come to us and persuade us, it is our ability to connect facts and experiences through a story that compels people to change, there must be something more than logic, rational world paradigm, 1) humans are essentially rational beings, 2) the paradigmatic mode of human decision making and communication is argument the main that we persuade is through the argument (organized dialectic, 3) the conduct of argument is ruled by the dictates of situations. Little pieces of logic cannot help us make sense: example: death of a loved one, requires an educated audience, paradigm a framework that helps us see the world in a particular way/ lens, narrative paradigm, elements: ^^^ we are compelled by both: not devoid of argument or logic it is just not primary, traditional story elements, characters, plot, setting, audience.
