Personality traits are broad individual diferences between people with regards to characterisic thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Historically four posiions of the nature of traits. Behavioral disposiions (catel, mccrae and costa and hogan. Five factor model or the big five (ocean) Trait theories began in the 1930s but not unil the 80s that you see researchers reach a consensus about the big ive. Encompassing facets: warmth, gregariousness, asseriveness, acivity, excitement seeking posiive emoions. Linked to diferences in social behavior, occupaional choice, learning and emoional life. High levels of extraversion are correlated with: posiive emoional states, high levels of happiness and life saisfacion, evoluion we need to be with people and hence by surrounding ourselves we gain this posiive feeling. Not only about social skills but about gaining energy. Extraverts get energy by being with others while introverts need a lone ime to rejuvenate. The ffm has somewhat bipolar terms, two extremes on both ends and we exist somewhere along the coninuum.
