Document Summary

Concupiscence: replacing god with the wrong things, searching for love in the wrong places. Inward tendency to choose and want the wrong things. Pelagius: humanity is justified on the basis of merit. The scriptures and god"s guidance is there to be reached out for in order to be saved. Our human good works are the result of our free will, which is not compromised. Failure to follow this decision put humans at risk of eternal punishment. Salvation in christ is salvation by imitating christ. (if it"s god"s grace alone that saves us, then people don"t feel the need to live a moral life) Augustine: humans are unable to redeem ourselves, so god offers us grace. Jesus christ, god is able to give us what we do not deserve (salvation) and withhold what we do deserve (eternal condemnation). God has already selected and predestined us to be saved.
