PR 660 Lecture 53: COMPLEXITY REDUCTIONABSORPTION
Document Summary
The concepts of complexity reduction and complexity absorption in organization assist in the explanation of reasoning behind certain assumptions. There are distinguishing factors between strategies aimed at complexity reduction which try to increase the control and predictability in a struggle of containment in the perceived complexity. Complexity absorption in this case are ones that try to embrace the nature of complexity to adapt through this function. Organizations using complexity reduction try to impose more order on a chaotic world by trying to simplify its internal structure and minimize and narrow foals to form and centralize decision making processes and seek a state of equilibrium. The traditional approach taken by managers is the complexity reduction approach. It"s also advocated by mbd programs and books that think good managers are judged as people who can reach balance and stability in systems and don"t minimize change that"s unpredictable in their organizations.
