PR 605 Lecture Notes - Lecture 57: Social Sustainability, Organizational Culture, Organizational Commitment
Document Summary
Sustainability means maintaining practices over a long amount of time because the tools and structures supporting those practices haven"t been damaged by the process of time. Majority of executives see sustainability as something that is an important aspect of future success. Concepts of sustainable management are originated in the environmental movement, so processes in harmony with the natural environment are a lot more encouraged. Social sustainability practices talk about ways that organizational actions affect social systems over time and how these changing social systems affect organizations. Sustainable management doesn"t" have to be purely altruistic. Overall, there is a positive relationship between sustainability and performance on the financial end. However, there is a strong moral and ethical piece of this that shapes the culture of an organization and has to be a genuine value for the relationship to actually exist. To create a truly sustainable business, organizations have to create long-term culture and put the values of that culture into practice.
