Crime and punishment in the 19th century cities were associated with air pollution, water pollution, diseases, alcohol consumption, and increasing crime. Larceny increased in britain and france (pick-pocketing) violent crime is not going up very much. 2000 out of original 3000 in number were fired the second was the prison system. Urban society & the city majority of population lives in a certain place. London going out of town- a painting that showed the peoples fears of the growth of towns and cities problems with air pollution and water pollution. Unnatural for people to not live in the countryside. A lot of original cities in indiana were in the south along the ohio river. Key problems: overcrowding & disease dunghills, no plumbing, no clean water.
