It is used by future rulers as a guide on how to obtain power and maintain control over their subjects. Johannes gutenberg perfects (completes) the use of moveable type. Does not invent it, but perfects its use. The protestant reformation begins w/ the dutch humanist desiderius erasmus. The philosophy of christ = one should live their life just as jesus christ did. German prince frederick the wise collects 5,000+ religious relics & attaches indulgences to these. A remission of the punishment due to sin, the guilt of which has been forgiven. Martin luther nails his ninety-five theses on wittenberg"s church door (1517) in protest. Martin luther (1843-1546: focused studies on assurance of salvation, studied theology, believed the bible was the chief source of religious truths, two columns of protestant reformation. Pope leo x dismisses, condemns, & finally excommunicates martin luther (1521)
