Color-blind racism: using the principal of race neutrality to define a racially unequal status quo. Involves outwardly proclaiming that everyone should be treated equally (society should be color-blind) but defending various institutional policies or practices that further the unequal treatment of minorities. Harvard: 6% of applicants-odds 3x higher if parent attended. Opposing those policies that would promote the equitable treatment. Discrimination : denial opportunities/equal rights to individuals and groups based upon some form of bias. Prejudice is a biased attitude and discrimination is a biased behavior. After the civil war, many us states instituted jim crow laws. Legal way to keep former slaves and their descendants in a subordinate class. This was legal discrimination based upon race.
