Female climacteric: decrease in fertility: can be medically induced. Identi able signs of the climacteric: changes in menstrual cycle, hot ashes. Misconceptions: not a bad thing for everyone. Estrogen replacement therapy (ert): replaces the hormones that women have during their cycle while going through menopause. Study of women"s health across the nation (swan): longitudinal study of what happens to women through menopause. Perimenopause: hormone-related changes in the body, as early as 10 years before menopause, can start as early as the last 30"s - can affect fertility, male menopause: They can still father children but it is a decrease in their fertility. Chapter 16: middle adulthood - social and personality. Societal changes : childbirth in 30s-40s, second careers. Completely shift from one area into another one: early retirement - no retirement. Really made around families from the 1950s: rigid gender roles. Women will stay at home and men will be in the work world: timing of events (not just age)
