Prone to ptsd dissociative amnesia: a person forgets that an event happened or loses awareness for a substantial block of time. May suddenly lose memory for personal facts including his or her own identity and place of residency. Wife shooting case dissociative fugue: the rarest and most extreme form of dissociative amnesia. Co case dissociative identity disorder (did): occurrence of two or more distinct identities in the same individual. Most people diagnosed with did are women who report being severely abused as chil- dren. Often the identities have periods of amnesia and sometimes only one identity is aware of the others. Those truly affected are ashamed of or overwhelmed by their symptoms: schizophrenia: a split between thought and emotion; it involves alterations in thoughts perceptions or consciousness.
