Melody- succession of pitches, range(the distance between the highest and lowest notes), contour (overall shape), interval (distance in pitch between any 2 notes) Conjunct- melodies that move in small intervals in a joined manner- gregorian chant. Cadences- resting places at the end of phrases (unit of the melody) Rhythm- movement of music in time, beat (regular pulse, basic unit of rhythm), meter (organizes the beats in music- time signature), accented and unaccented beats, downbeat- strong beat, upbeat- weak beat. Syncopation- an accent in an unexpected place (weak beat) Harmony- simultaneous combination of chords (three or more notes played together) Scale- collecting od pitches in ascending or descending order, pentatonic scale is a five note scale, major- happy, minor- sad, dissonance- conflict, consonance- calm.
