Document Summary

Andes - back bone of south america - over 4,000 miles. Longest continuous mountain chain in the world. Mountains create a sense of loyalty to the local rather than the nature. Do not tend to form sense of national identity. Amazon river is the world"s largest river. Provides food, irrigation, and a means of travel. Burning wood - releasing co2 - not being used for energy. Most precipitation only falls on one side of mountain. Taller the mountain the stronger the effect. On shore winds are chilled so unable to pick up moisture. High pressure - descending air warms and dries up. Loose confederation of people - collection of different groups that worked together because of economics. Famous for stone/rock buildings that still exist today. Major city: what mexico city is built on today. Did not keep empire together through economics. Had strong military and alliances - evolved over time. Can see ruins in mexico city today.
