Taipei 101: has 101 floors, symbolizes country with great monument, idea of renewel from 100 floors - represents new year, symbolizes pagoda vertically/upside down, symbolizes bamboo (use of materials) Determinant of place: define place by marking place, blending in with nature, having its own meaning while playing with nature. Define place by contrast: turn weak into strong suits. Define place by complimenting it: bridge/building to connect one side to the other, compliments the surrounding area, nature/what"s already there, responds to landscape by repeating it.
