Document Summary

Energy levels of electrons - the first shell has the lowest energy the second has higher energy and so on. Neutral isn"t always the most stable. happy=stable for an atom. Each orbital can only have 2 electrons at most. Px py pz are the three orbitals after 1s and 2s - can also hold only 2 electrons. Second orbital- 2s, px py pz can hold up to 8 electrons. Strong chemical bonds form : because atoms are more stable( screen moved to fast) Covalent bonds-sharing is caring: 2 or more atoms share a pair of electrons. Bonding capacity- number of covalent bonds an atom can form. Ions - are charged atoms or molecules: # protons not equal to # of electrons, + ions=cations, - charged ions = anion, ionic compounds are generally salts, environment affects ionic bond strength. Weak chemical bonds - weak doesn"t mean unimportant.
