Important for researchers to take part in whatever is going on in the culture they are studying: genealogical method, life history. Having in depth discussions with the people of the culture to nd out about their life and rituals, etc: contrasting perspectives: emic and etc. Emic: local and interior perspective of the people that has a lot of personal experiences. Etic: outsider perspective (usually of the anthropologists) which is more theoretical and big picture: different models: problem-oriented, longitudinal, team research, multi-sited ethnography. Problem-oriented: going in to learn about something speci c (diets, pollution, not always culture) Longitudinal: long term study of an area or a population for a long time (ex. Team research: part of a team of other people such as sociologists, psychologists, etc. Multi-sited: research in different locations about a related topic: ethics and informed consent.
