I use the attribution theory to understand why someone acts a certain way. This weekend someone was shot in mattoon; it was a couple having an argument about something and the man shot and killed the woman. The attribution theory would help to explain why he shot her. Whether it was because he was angry about something (internal attribution) or the situation he was in led him to shoot at her ultimately killing her (external attribution). I think the covariation model would also help to explain this. It could help explain which attribution led to the shooting. The situation with the shooting sounds very saddening. I think with the proper questioning to the man would help allow one to know what his motives were. I also think that knowing his financial situation, background, and mental state it could help to understand where he is coming from.
