PSY 323 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Cognitive Dissonance
Document Summary
Provide an example of an attitude toward some person or thing, and identify the affective, cognitive, and behavioral components of that attitude. Attitude is considered to be the opinions of people, objects, and ideas. For example, i am frustrated with the representatives of the illinois congress. Illinois is going into its second fiscal year without a budget. Another example would be the feeling of hatred toward the idea of trash being dispersed in the home of fish and animals in the ocean. Cognitive components of attitude are based on an individual"s beliefs towards a specific object. Affective components of attitude are based on feelings and values rather than beliefs towards an object. Cognitive dissonance can create attitude change by having one think about their other options. They may think that they could have chosen an option that would have more positively benefited them.
